This week I decided to try to learn crochet.
This is a skill that my maternal grandmother tried to teach me back when I was a teenager, but I didn’t have the patience for it back then. Fast forward 40 years and I stumble upon a YouTube video that sparked an interest in trying the skill again.
The YouTube video: How to crochet a scarf-no experience needed! by Sewrella (See video here)was very enticing to me. She made me believe that I could do it!
The stitch is called a half-double crochet stitch, and even though she recommended a K 6.5 hook to start, my store didn’t have it in stock. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on something that I didn’t know if I would like or not, considering my past experience with it, so I bought the N15 10.00mm hook by Boye that I purchased for $1.38.
Any time I try something new it goes in my “Create Happiness” craft skill journal. Luckily this page will go in as a success! My scarf is progressing, and I seem to get a little better at it as the rows go on. I still seem to have trouble with pulling the yarn through three loops at a time, but I’ll keep trying!
What new skills are you trying?
